Special Education Advisory Council

The purpose of the Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) is to represent the interests of district learners with disabilities from birth through age 21; advise the Special Education Department on current issues, program development, parental concerns and involvement, and department priorities; serve as an advocate for high quality special education programs, and promote communication between family, school and community, actively seeking input from students and parents.

Members

SEAC is a committee of 20-25 people consisting of district parents, community reps, students with disabilities, and school staff. Half of them are parents and advocates. SEAC guides the district's work in providing equal learning opportunities for all students. Join SEAC to work effectively with the district, learn about special education, and make a positive impact on your community.

What is the role of members?

SEAC members must:

  1. Review and follow the bylaws.
  2. Attend at least 50% of the scheduled meetings and share responsibilities.
  3. Read the necessary materials and provide input before attending meetings.
  4. During meetings, they should provide feedback, identify challenges, and represent family concerns.
  5. Encourage parent involvement and participate in community activities.
  6. Collaborate with the school district’s special education director and SEAC members to fulfill the local SEAC’s mission.
